Plymouth Argyle confirmed this week that Mustapha Bundu would be leaving the club at the expiration of his contract. The League One side had wanted to keep the 28-year-old but their efforts to secure a renewal didn’t end in success.

That’s perhaps unsurprising, given Plymouth Argyle’s relegation from the Championship. Bundu scored 11 goals in 42 matches last season, a big improvement from his previous campaign.

Now he’s signed for Hannover 96, who finished 9th in the 2.Bundesliga in the recently concluded season.

Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, better known as WAZ, report Miron Muslić’s new side Schalke had Bundu on the wanted list themselves. Muslić left Plymouth Argyle in May after Schalke paid his release clause, with the club feeling like they’d been poorly treated by the manager.

WAZ report that regardless of those Muslić and Bandu links via Plymouth Argyle, Schalke weren’t able to beat Hannover to the forward.

Despite his free agent status, Schalke couldn’t afford to beat Hannover to Bandu due to him commanding relatively high wages. Muslić first needs to offload multiple players before going into the market, with the manager surely realising the size of the job he has ahead of him at Schalke.
