Over the past few weeks, multiple reports from Brazil have covered advances made by Nottingham Forest to sign Botafogo’s Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha. The duo are expected to join the Premier League side after the Club World Cup.
Last week, Botafogo owner John Textor said Nottingham Forest are advancing to sign both Jesus and Jair Cunha. He added Cuiabano won’t be joining the Reds despite their desire to secure his services.
At the weekend, journalist Jorge Nicola reported Jair Cunha is considering turning down Nottingham Forest.
UOLÂ state Nottingham Forest considered the operation for the centre-back was underway, but it could now fall through.
The 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes and impressed in his side’s Club World Cup victories over Seattle Sounders FC and Paris Saint-Germain. The report states his displays have attracted interest from other European clubs and his value has increased.
Therefore, Botafogo are said to be asking Nuno EspÃrito Santo’s side for more. They also intend to listen to proposals from other clubs. Jair Cunha, for his part, isn’t entirely convinced of a transfer at this moment in time.
UOL state: ‘Botafogo know it’s not an easy deal to break down, as they had advanced negotiations to sell the defender to Nottingham Forest.’
They add the English club continue to insist on signing Jair Cunha. It’s unclear if they are willing to offer more, but Nottingham Forest have to convince the player to get this move over the line.
