New Manchester United singing Diego León has been told to join the club and fight to be a starter under Ruben Amorim.

That’s according to his father, Basilio León, who has revealed to Versus that is the advice he’s given his son after his move was announced today.

Manchester United completed a deal for the Paraguayan youngster this week, with the announcement made today and him presented as their second signing of the summer.

The 18-year-old arrives direct from Paraguay and relatively raw at this point, having made just 33 appearances for Club Cerro Porteño during his time with them.

The expectation, because of that, is that the youngster may head out of loan from Manchester United this summer to help his continue his development and establish himself in Europe.

León, though, has publically fought against that, insisting when he was interviewed recently ahead of his flight to Manchester in the airport that he was going to Old Trafford to compete for a first team place this summer.

That’s a message which has been given to him by his father, at least according to the man himself, Basilio León.

“Your goal is to be a starter, be positive, and mentally prepare to be a starter,” he said when asked what advice he’d given his son ahead of the move.
