Recent claims from England that Arsenal have initiated contact with Ajax to sign Jorrel Hato, and have already offered the player a contract, appeared well wide of the mark and yet were picked up and ran with.

The media around Ajax is excellent and it’s incredibly unlikely a Premier League club would start talks for one of their players and it not be known to them very quickly. Indeed, Ajax have a record in recent years of purposefully informing the media when such a thing happens, and even at times claiming there’s interest from others clubs to get an auction going.

Arsenal rumours around the 19-year-old have been mentioned, but it’s certainly not being taken seriously.

Soccernews.nl report the youngster has just bought a new apartment in the Zuidas area of Amsterdam for €1.65m. At his age and given he won’t have been on a massive Ajax contract yet, it’s safe to say he plans to live in it. The purchase is via a mortgage for the full amount.

The report’s headline states the purchase ‘makes a statement’ amidst transfer claims.
