Federico Chiesa had a very limited role in his first season at Liverpool, playing 466 minutes from 14 games across all competitions.
On June 3rd, Chiesa hinted he could leave Anfield and said hell look for the best solution. Three days later, he insisted a decision will be made after discussing things with his family and agent.
Wednesday’s edition of Corriere della Sera states the Liverpool player wants to return to Italy, a year after leaving Juventus.
AS Roma, who came close to signing the attacking midfielder last summer, are keen on making another attempt. Their new manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, admires the 27-year-old, and considers him an ideal player for his system.
The Italy international’s contract lasts until 2029, but Arne Slot’s side are willing to sell him for €15m and this doesn’t scare the Giallorossi. The newspaper says Chiesa ‘can turn out to be a bargain’ for that price.
Corriere della Sera add Liverpool are only considering a sale and Roma are thinking about it.
Chiesa wants to represent Italy at the next World Cup, should they qualify, and knows that he needs to play regularly next season. The player has to relaunch his career and is aware that Rome can present him that opportunity.
Roma would have to sell at least one of Lorenzo Pellegrini, Stephan El Shaarawy or Tommaso Baldanzi before signing Chiesa. They also need to be wary of Atalanta, AC Milan and Napoli, who could try to sign the Liverpool player.
