Julio Enciso has been negotiating a move to Porto from Brighton and Hove Albion for weeks, but it is being held up by their involvement in the Club World Cup.
That’s according to Versus, who cover comments from the Brighton midfielder’s agent Pedro Aldave today after an appearance on Versus radio.
Enciso has been linked with a move to Porto over the last few weeks, with the Portuguese side seemingly keen on securing his signature this summer.
The midfielder is returning to Brighton after a loan spell at Ipswich Town in the second half of last season.
He joined Kieran McKenna’s side after finding himself out of the picture at Brighton, where a squad full of midfield talent has pushed him down the pecking order.
The belief is that he will want to move on permanently this summer in search of regular playing time elsewhere. That’s something Porto are seemingly willing to offer him.
Any move from them is now likely to be left until after the Club World Cup in America, but Enciso’s agent has confirmed t they’ve been working on the deal for weeks.
“Porto made an offer a while ago,” he said.
“Right now, there’s a delay due to the Club World Cup, but for us it’s been going on for several weeks. We’ve been working on it; it’s a possibility we’ve considered, especially because the coach really wanted to have Julio.
“He has to return to Brighton, but one of the possibilities is for him to leave in this transfer window; that’s our idea. We’re happy with the change of scenery, but he’s still there. If they don’t sell him, his contract will end. Brighton have a lot of players; I don’t think a change of scenery would be a bad idea,”
